Centre for Palaeogenetics | Steppe Mammoths in Winter
Genomic DNA extracted from a trio of tooth specimens excavated in the 1970s has identified a new kind of mammoth that gave rise to a later North American species. The findings were published in Nature (2/17/21), along with this illustration I produced in collaboration with the study's authors showing a newly winterized Steppe Mammoth in a snowy habitat.
